Looking For Health Insurance if You Lost Job Benefits?
Grim unemployment figures are alarming enough, but they are not even mentioning how many Americans are in danger of losing health benefits. While unemployed people may lose their health benefits if they cannot get, or cannot afford, a COBRA health benefits extension, others may be victims of their company’s cost slashing measures.
Health Insurance Alternatives
We looked at some alternatives to COBRA health plans, and came up with short term medical insurance. That may be a good option if you are planning on finding another job with health benefits in the next year, or if you are waiting for group benefits to start.
If you have decided to strike out on your own with a small business, or your company just does not offer a health plan, look at individual health plans that are on the market. If your income is low, you may qualify for state assistance for yourself, or at least for your kids.
